Soltac has been developing a new solar oven design for use in rural areas in countries such as India and others. The design is intended to allow continued use for cooking and baking with a minimum anticipated usage of 180 days per year. At this rate, our solOven cooking appliance would save upwards of 50% of the fuel used (in many rural areas there are about 300 days of sunshine), improve local air quality and the health of our users.
In 2009, we were fortunate to be involved in the Clean Tech Open Business Competition and were semifinalists. In doing so, we have had an opportunity to further hone our business plan and have made inroads to greater distribution resources. We are now preparing to launch the new oven and begin placing it in the hands of those that can most benefit from it.
